Connect Geistra to ChatGPT
Geistra is a place for the information you and your AI apps work with: Spaces of records, files and plans that you can share with the people you invite. Connected to ChatGPT, it lets ChatGPT read and keep that information for you, under your permissions, across every conversation, and every change shows who made it and through which app.
What you need
- A Geistra account. The connector works on every plan, Free, Plus and Pro; the plans differ in limits such as storage, files per day and Geistra AI use (pricing).
- ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com). Once connected there, Geistra also works in the ChatGPT desktop and mobile apps.
Connect it
- On chatgpt.com, open Apps and look for Geistra. If it isn't listed for you, go to chatgpt.com/plugins, click +, then Add custom MCP server, name it Geistra and use this address as the Server URL, with OAuth for authentication:
https://mcp.geistra.com/mcp/chatgpt- Click Connect, sign in to Geistra if asked, and click Allow on Geistra's consent page. It shows which app is asking and where it will send you back.
- In a new chat, type @ and choose Geistra, then ask, for example, “What Spaces do I have in Geistra?”
On a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an admin allows the app (or custom MCP servers) for the workspace first, under Workspace settings, then each person connects their own Geistra account.
Make ChatGPT use Geistra without being asked
Add a few lines to ChatGPT's instructions and it checks Geistra at the start of each task and keeps your records current as it works. Get the text.
Images and files from the chat
Ask ChatGPT to save an image it made, or a file you attached, to a Space, and it sends the file straight to Geistra: no downloading and uploading. Geistra scans it, reads its text and keeps the original like any other upload.
What ChatGPT can do
Every Geistra tool tells ChatGPT whether it only reads or changes your data, so ChatGPT can ask you before a change. On top of that, sensitive actions also wait for your approval in Geistra itself, whatever the AI asks: sharing outside a Space, inviting people or changing their access, publishing a public link, running a saved action (such as sending a text) and applying a draft.
Spaces
List your Spaces, see their members, recent activity and usage, and create a Space or set one up from a template. Archiving a Space asks you first.
Records and search
Read and search records by words or by meaning, plan where new kinds of information belong, and create, update or delete records, including several changes together as one transaction.
Files
Read the text of documents and photos already in a Space (scanned pages are read by OCR), show your photos and images right in the chat, save files from the conversation (in ChatGPT, images it made or files you attached go straight in), give you an upload link for the original file, and replace or delete files.
Drafts
Stage a larger change in a draft you review before anything live changes. Applying a draft asks you first.
Sharing and members
See who is in a Space and invite people or change their role. Every invitation, role change and removal waits for your approval.
History
See what changed, when, by whom and through which AI app, and catch up on what changed since you last looked, including what you did in other apps and other chats.
Saved context and handoffs
Save the important parts of a conversation when you ask, and hand them to someone else so they can carry on.
Apps
Build simple pages over a Space's data (tables, lists, calendars, forms, checklists) that you and your members open at a link.
Tasks
Schedule reports Geistra emails even when no chat is open, such as the open invoices every Monday, or pages filled in from a template. Pause, resume or reschedule any task. Creating or changing a task asks you first; summaries written by Geistra's AI are set up in Geistra itself.
Inbound hooks
Create an address another service sends events to, so each event becomes a record in a Space.
Notifications
Tell other systems when something changes, with a signed webhook or a private feed link. Both ask you first.
Text messages
Send a text through the texting service you set up in Geistra (Space → Saved actions, send_text). Every text asks you first, and its daily limits and opt-out list always apply.
Things to ask
- “What Spaces do I have in Geistra, and what changed in them this week?”
- “Save these three flights and the hotel to my Italy Trip Space.”
- “Find everything in the Smith matter that mentions the March inspection, and cite the pages.”
- “Make a checklist app for our move that the whole family can open.”
- “Save the image you just made to my Family Space.”
- “Email me a table of open invoices every Monday at 8am Chicago time.”
What ChatGPT can't do
- Read a stored secret's value. Nobody can read one back, person or AI.
- Send arbitrary web requests. It can send a text through the texting service you set up in Geistra, with your approval; other saved actions run from Geistra itself.
- See a Space you aren't a member of, or a collection you don't have access to.
- Read or list an archived Space. You read archived Spaces in Geistra itself.
- Do more than you can. It acts as you, with your permissions.
The full connector
For people who automate a lot, Geistra has a second address with two more abilities: ChatGPT can call a service with a secret stored in a Space (Geistra fills the secret in, and ChatGPT never sees it), and create or change saved actions from the chat instead of in Geistra. Each still asks you first. It uses the same Geistra sign-in.
Add it yourself as a custom MCP server (on Business and Enterprise workspaces, an admin allows it first):
https://mcp.geistra.com/mcp/fullUse one Geistra connector or the other, not both, so ChatGPT doesn't see every tool twice.
Your data and privacy
Geistra doesn't read your ChatGPT chat history, memory or other conversations. It sees only what ChatGPT sends when it calls a Geistra tool, and keeps only what you or ChatGPT deliberately save. Every change records who made it and through which AI app. Content ChatGPT reads from Geistra is marked as data, never as instructions.
Read the privacy policy, how Geistra is secured, and its subprocessors.
Disconnect
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps, choose Geistra and disconnect it.
In Geistra, open Account → Connected AI apps and click Disconnect. That stops the app at once, whatever ChatGPT still holds.
